Jan. 6 Protesters Who Were Not Violent Can Be Convicted of Disorderly Conduct: Court

People who entered the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, can be convicted of disorderly conduct even if they were “neither violent nor destructive,” a federal appeals court ruled on Friday, Jan. 5. 

Russell Alford of Alabama was convicted in 2022 by a jury of four counts, including two of disorderly conduct.

Supreme Court Takes Up Trump Ballot Disqualification Case

The U.S. Supreme Court accepted a petition for immediate review regarding a Colorado Supreme Court decision to strike former President Donald Trump from the ballot. 

“The petition for a writ of certiorari is granted,” reads the procedural order. Oral arguments are scheduled for Feb. 8, 2024.




“The facts speak truth. Ashli was ambushed when she was shot by Lt. Byrd. Multiple witnesses at the scene yelled, ‘you just murdered her,’” the lawsuit states.

Judicial Watch has filed a $30 million wrongful death lawsuit for the Jan. 6, 2021, killing of Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt by U.S. Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd. 

The suit, filed in federal court in San Diego, accuses Mr. Byrd of multiple counts of negligence that resulted in Ms. Babbitt’s death by a gunshot wound to her left anterior shoulder.

New Documentary Explores How Jan. 6 Has Changed America
