Report: Senate Immigration Deal Allows 35,000 Illegals at Border Every Week

A Senate immigration deal from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and James Lankford (R-OK) would allow up to 35,000 illegal aliens to arrive at the United States-Mexico border every week before triggering border controls.

According to details reported by Adam Shaw at Fox News the deal would allow up to 5,000 illegal aliens to be encountered every day over a 7-day period — or about 150,000 a month — before the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would have to use border controls to quickly remove illegal aliens.

The border controls would be similar to those of Title 42, the public health authority used by former President Donald Trump to stem illegal immigration and which President Joe Biden ended. Title 42 allows DHS to quickly apprehend and remove illegal aliens after they arrive at the border.

Arizona GOP Chairman Resigns Amid Kari Lake Bribery Allegations

The chairman of the Arizona Republican Party said he resigned from his role on Jan. 23 after a recording of him was leaked that apparently showed him offering U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake money to stay out of that race.

In his resignation statement, Jeff DeWit suggested that Ms. Lake’s team allegedly secretly recorded their conversation before leaking it to the media. He also accused her team of threatening to release more recordings, which he described as being taken out of context, although he provided few details.

“I said things I regret, but I realize when hearing Lake’s recording that I was set up,” Mr. DeWit said in a statement. “I believe she orchestrated this entire situation to have control over the state party and it is obvious from the recording that she crafted her performance responses with the knowledge that she was recording it, intending to use this recording later to portray herself as a hero.”

21 Israeli soldiers are killed in the deadliest single attack on the army since the war began

JERUSALEM (AP) — Twenty-one soldiers were killed in the Gaza Strip in the deadliest attack on Israel’s forces since the Oct. 7 Hamas raid that triggered the war, the military said Tuesday, a major setback that could add to mounting calls for a cease-fire.

The reservists were preparing explosives to demolish two buildings in central Gaza on Monday when a militant fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a tank nearby. The blast triggered the explosives, causing both two-story buildings to collapse on the soldiers inside.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to press ahead until Israel crushes the ruling Hamas militant group and wins the freedom of over 100 hostages held captive in Gaza. But Israelis are increasingly divided on the question of whether it’s possible to do either, and large numbers of Israeli casualties have pressured Israel’s government to halt past military operations.

The panel is investigating the security failures on that day and the actions of the former select committee investigating the Capitol riot.

Group Involved in Trump 2024 Ballot Challenges Targets Others With Jan. 6 Ties

The progressive, $10 million, nonprofit organization trying to remove former President Donald Trump from primary ballots in multiple states has also been working to remove other politicians from office or from getting on the ballot through its self-described “aggressive legal action.”

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has argued that anyone connected to the events of Jan. 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol should not hold office because they allegedly violated Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The amendment states that if someone had previously taken an oath to support the Constitution and then engages in “insurrection or rebellion,” they may not hold civil or military office.

CREW is representing plaintiffs in a legal case calling for President Trump to be removed from ballots in Colorado. CREW board member and former U.S. Rep. Claudine Schneider is a plaintiff in the case.

Trump Faces More Challenging Test in N.H. After Blowout Iowa Win

Donald Trump's commanding victory in Iowa underscores his enduring appeal to a wide swath of Republican voters, and his campaign's sophisticated, data-driven ground game. But the next nominating contest in New Hampshire will test whether he can replicate that success in a less conservative state.

While Trump remains the prohibitive favorite to secure the Republican Party's presidential nomination, he needs a convincing win in New Hampshire to ensure his surviving rivals have little to no path left to outmaneuver him.

He can then turn his attention to his Democratic opponent in the Nov. 5 election, President Joe Biden, earlier than usual in the primary calendar.

The Houthis fired a missile at the USS Laboon at about 4:35 p.m. local time in the southern Red Sea, according to a statement from the Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees U.S. military forces in the Middle East.

The missile was shot down by U.S. fighter aircraft, and no injuries were reported.

It wasn’t clear whether the United States would retaliate for the latest attacks, although President Joe Biden has said that he “will not hesitate to direct further measures to protect our people and the free flow of international commerce as necessary.”

ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR

Anti-Israel demonstrators gathered at the Montreal home of Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly on Jan. 13 over Canada’s stance on the Israel-Hamas war.

The protest outside Ms. Joly’s home came just one day after she issued a government statement saying that Ottawa’s “unwavering support for international law” does not mean it accepts “the premise of the case brought by South Africa,” which accuses Israel of genocide before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Approximately three-dozen protesters showed up at Ms. Joly’s home the morning of Jan. 13 shouting pro-Palestinian slogans and accusing her of complicity in the alleged “genocide.”

The protestors set up a Concordia Student Union tent, held signs that said “Mourn the dead, fight like hell for the living,” and used a loudspeaker to make speeches and sing.

Oregon Supreme Court Won’t Remove Trump From Ballot ‘For Now’

The Oregon Supreme Court on Friday declined to hear a 14th Amendment-related case to remove former President Donald Trump from the state’s ballots, saying it will wait for a U.S. Supreme Court decision before taking any action.

In a one-page statement, the state’s top court wrote that it would not “for now” hear a challenge issued by five Oregon voters seeking to bar the former president from ballot access in the 2024 Republican primary and general election.

The voters had asked the court to direct the Oregon secretary of state to disqualify the former president under the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, although the secretary, Democrat Lavonne Griffin-Valade, wrote she had no authority under state law to do so.
